CONVERSATION PRACTICE

Knowing vocabulary and grammar translates to linguistic competence which is the forefront of language acquisition. Yet recent studies have revealed that linguistic competence isn’t enough to make a learner carry on a natural conversation especially in a second language.  This is where communicative competence comes into play which focuses more on the ability to use and to understand a language effectively to communicate in an authentic, social environment.  Since communicative competence values achieving successful social interaction and communication, conversation is a must. Linguistic and communicative competences go hand in hand in achieving effective and persuasive communication more importantly in learning another language.

“Language is not a genetic gift, it is a social gift. Learning a new language is becoming a member of the club – the community of speakers of that language.”
